Shoot em’ up Viral
Remember back in 2003 when David Blaine thought it would be a good idea to sit in a transparent box for 44days overlooking the Tower Bridge?
He probably envisaged an army of fans and well wishers cheering him on, however instead of support, he was mainly greeted by gawkers and loutish abuse – even Sir Paul McCarthy joined in!
The Game
While working under the alias of Brian Mung (a popular viral content siteback in the day), we decided to quickly bash out a Blaine based flash game.
The game it’s self was pretty simple, shoot at Blaine as he swings in his box taunting you (randomly in a Rain Man fashion).
If you were a crack shot (which to be honest wasn’t hard) you’d win the game and be treated to a bonus animation.
After Blaine’s death he became an angel and accended to Heaven. God however, doesn’t care for people who pratice the dark arts (even if it is just sitting in a box) so poor david is cast down into the firery pits of Hell.
It’s not too bad in Hell though. Upon arrival, David is greeted by Siegfried and Roy (pre- tiger mauling) and invited to a German techno party with other celebrity magicians.
The Outcome
The game went live on the brianmung.com website and before we knew it it was a viral sensation.
Not only was the Blaine game doing the rounds on the internet, but it spilled over into other media channels appearing in The Sun newspaper and mentioned on Channel 4′s RI:SE breakfast show.
The Blaine game got brianmung.com out there and started bringing in the paid work such as the Derren Brown – Inside Your Mind and Chris Ryan Sniper School.
So, in short, thankyou David Blaine and the hype that surrounded you!
Play the game
Although cringeworthly dated now, the game is still available to play.
